Commission D Calls for Integrated Air Quality Monitoring System

Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Commission D Chair Yuke Yurike has called on the Jakarta Provincial Government to strengthen air quality monitoring by improving laboratory capacity, providing adequate equipment, and establishing an integrated system involving multiple government agencies.

Environmental issues cannot be addressed separately

Yuke said air quality management should not be the sole responsibility of the Jakarta Environment Agency. She stressed the need for coordination across agencies, as environmental issues are closely linked, covering everything from air quality and water availability to green open space management.

Commission D: Upgrading Residential Areas a Priority in 2027

"Environmental issues cannot be addressed separately because conditions vary from one area to another. Some areas have industrial zones, while others are residential, so we need a clear picture of the situation," Yuke said on Friday (11/6).

She said better laboratory facilities and adequate monitoring equipment were essential to ensure environmental conditions could be measured accurately.

Yuke also proposed developing an integrated monitoring system, similar to a command center, that would bring together various environmental data, including air quality and green open space availability. The system is expected to help the government identify environmental issues and determine appropriate measures based on the needs of each area.

She added that environmental monitoring should also take greenhouse gas emissions into account. Given the complexity of environmental issues, she said, a planned and integrated approach involving multiple sectors was needed.

"This would enable the relevant agencies to take appropriate and coordinated action. For example, they could identify areas facing water shortages or in need of more green spaces. These factors also affect overall environmental quality," she said.
